Horse Island, the largest of the Thimble Islands in Branford, CT, has been owned and managed by the Yale Peabody Museum as a natural preserve since the early 1970s. The new Horse Island Research Station, a collaborative design-build project with the School of Architecture and the School of the Environment, was conceived and built by students and faculty using the principles of regenerative design.
Spend an afternoon on the island with Peabody educators learning about this new off-grid building, past and current research, and the interesting flora, fauna and geology of this unique resource. This visit involves a 15-minute ferry trip between the Stony Creek dock and Horse Island – details will be provided to registrants. Please note – all visits to Horse Island require prior arrangement with the Yale Peabody Museum. Attendees will be responsible for their own transportation to the ferry. Ferry will leave promptly at 3:00 p.m. from the Stony Creek dock in Branford, CT.
